KARACHI: The Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) dropped by 128 per cent in the first two months of this fiscal year, reflecting the government’s poor performance on the external-sector front. FDI in July-August was $112m while the net inflow during the same two-month period of the last fiscal year was $241m. Chinese investments also reduced to just $25m compared to $135m in the same period of the last fiscal year. During a recent press conference, questions were raised about Pakistan’s ability to attract foreign investment. But the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) dispelled the impression that only Chinese investors were bringing significant FDI into Pakistan. However, the SBP data shows foreign investments have sharply declined with the beginning of 2016-17. FDI had witnessed some improvement in 2015-16, as it increased by 39pc year-on-year to $1.28 billion. But most of the increase was due to Chinese investments, which shot up by 130pc to $594m on an annual basis...

Sale of cheap LED Bulbs the cost in open market reduced. यह बल्ब एनर्जी एफिशियंट सर्विसेज लिमिटेड की ओर से बांटे जा रहे हैं। बीते दो सालों में इनकी कीमत 310 रुपये के मुकाबले 38 रुपये पर आ पहुंची है। एक सीनियर सरकारी अफसर ने बताया कि एनर्जी एफिशियंट सर्विसेज लिमिटेड को 38 रुपये में नौ वॉट का एक बल्ब बनाने की बोली मिली है। पिछले सप्ताह 5 करोड़ बल्ब तैयार करने के लिए आयोजित बोली में कुल 14 कंपनियों ने हिस्सा लिया था। केंद्र सरकार का अनुमान है कि एलईडी बल्ब के जरिए प्रतिदिन 85 लाख किलो वॉट बिजली की बचत हो रही है। बीते तीन सालों में 77 करोड़ परंपरागत बल्बों को हटाकर एलईडी बल्ब लगा दिए गए हैं। इसके अलावा 3.5 करोड़ स्ट्रीट लाइट्स भी कम हो गई हैं। इस स्कीम के तहत सरकार की ओर से कार्बन उत्सर्जन कम करने के लक्ष्य को हासिल करने में भी मदद मिल रही है। इससे पहले इसी साल मार्च में कंपनी को 55 रुपये में बल्ब तैयार करने की बोली मिली थी। इससे पहले 2014 में कंपनी ने 310 रुपये प्रति बल्ब के हिसाब से खरीद की थी। फिलहाल यह बल्ब ...

‘Illegal sand mining eroded Savitri bridge foundation, led to collapse’ MUMBAI: Illegal sand dredging has led to the collapse of the bridge across the Savitri river near Mahad, local social activist Uday Ambonkar said on Thursday, according to a television news channel report. At least 29 people are feared drowned in the river after portions of the British-era masonry bridge crumbled under the weight of floodwaters late Tuesday night. "There have been countless cases of illegal sand mining in and around the river. This has been going on for years. The local administration turns a blind eye to such illegal activities. Periodic inquiries held by the officials are mere farce," Ambonkar told mediapersons.
